GAUGE

In Roman Stitch, using larger needles, 22-1/2 sts and 32 rows = 4"/10 cm

 

STITCHES USED

Seed stitch (multiple of 2 sts + 1; 1-row repeat)

Row 1:  K1, *p1, k1, repeat from * across.

Repeat Row 1 for pattern.

 

Roman Stitch (multiple of 2 sts + 1; 6-row repeat)

Row 1 (RS):  K1, *p1, k1, repeat from * across.

Row 2: K1, *p1, k1, repeat from * across.

Row 3: Knit.

Row 4: Purl.

Row 5: Knit.

Row 6: Purl.

Rep rows 1-6 for pattern.

 

NOTES

Garment is worked in one piece beginning at right wrist and ending at left wrist. Collar is picked up and worked after seams are sewn.

 

RIGHT SLEEVE

Using smaller ndls, CO 57 (61, 63, 67, 69) sts.

(RS) Work even in Seed st even until piece measures 1-1/2" from beginning, end with a WS row.

Change to larger needles and Roman st. Work for 6 rows, end with a WS row.

Sleeve Shaping

(RS) Inc 1 st each side this row, then every 4 rows 6 (8, 13, 15, 20) times, then every 6 rows 10 (9, 6, 5, 2) times—91 (97, 103, 109, 115) sts.

Work even until piece measures 13-1/2 (13-3/4, 14, 14-1/4, 14-1/2)" from the beginning, end with a WS row.

 

BODY

Change to larger circular needle. CO 65 sts at beg of each of next 2 rows--221 (227, 233, 239, 245) sts. Continue in Roman st working first 5 sts and last 5 sts of every row in Seed st. Work even until piece measures 7 (8, 9, 10, 11)" from beginning of body, end with a WS row.

Neck Shaping

BO 108 (112, 114, 118, 120) sts at beg of next row.  Dec 1 st at beg of next 2 RS rows--111 (113, 117, 119, 123) sts. Continuing in Roman St and maintaining Seed st on lower back portion only, work even until piece measures 3-1/2" from beg of neck shaping.  Inc 1 st at beg of next 2 RS rows.  CO 108 (112, 114, 118, 120) sts at beg of next RS row--221 (227, 233, 239, 245) sts.  Continue in Roman St, once again working first 5 sts and last 5 sts of each row in Seed st. Work even until piece measures 7 (8, 9, 10, 11)"  from beg of left front, end with WS row.

 

LEFT SLEEVE

BO 65 sts at beg of next 2 rows--91 (97, 103, 109, 115) sts. Change to larger straight needle. Work even only in Roman st for 6 rows.

Sleeve Shaping

(RS) Dec 1 st each side this row, then every 6 rows 9 (8, 5, 4, 1) time(s), then every 4 rows 7 (9, 14, 16, 21) times--57 (61, 63, 67, 69) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 1 1/2" less than right sleeve. Change to smaller straight needles. Work in Seed st for 1 1/2", ending with a WS row.
(RS) BO in Seed st.

 

FINISHING

Sew side and sleeve seams.

Neck Edging

With WS facing, using smaller circular needles, pick up 235 (241, 247, 253, 259) sts up left front, across back neck and down right front. Work even in Seed st until edging measures 2", end with WS row.

(RS) BO in Seed st.

Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
