FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:

Throw measures approx. 48"/122cm wide x 60"/152.5cm long

GAUGE

In pattern, using G-6(4mm) hook, Motif (6 rounds) = 6"/15 cm diameter.

STITCHES USED

Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (slip st), treble crochet (tr)

SPECIAL TECHNIQUE

Double-ring method — Holding the yarn a few inches from the end, wrap twice around your fingers. Remove rings from fingers and grip two rings and tail firmly between middle finger and thumb. Insert hook through center of ring and draw up a loop. Yarn over and draw through loop on hook. Work stitches of first round in the rings. Pull gently, but firmly, on tail to tighten ring.

motif-join — Drop loop from hook, insert hook in corresponding ch-space of neighboring Motif(s), pick up dropped loop, and continue with instructions.

NOTES

1. Weaving in ends as each Motif is completed makes finishing much easier. A dab of fabric glue or fray check applied to cut ends will help prevent ends from working free.

2. To change color in a join, insert hook in beginning ch or first sc, yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook. Secure and fasten off old color.

3. Motifs are joined in ch-spaces of Round 6. The ch-10 spaces form internal corners and are joined to corresponding ch-10 spaces of neighboring Motifs. The ch-2 spaces form the sides or external corners and are joined to corresponding ch-2 spaces of neighboring Motifs or left unjoined (along outer edges). Work the appropriate Round 6 for the location of the motif (see comments in parentheses at beginning of each Round 6, and refer to assembly diagram). The assembly diagram shows the arrangement of Motifs A and B, and recommended order of assembly.

MOTIF (make 80 – 40 in color sequence A, and 40 in color sequence B)

Color Sequence A: Work Round 1 with A, Round 2 with B, Rounds 3 and 4 with C, Rounds 5 and 6 with MC.

Color Sequence A: Work Round 1 with A, Round 2 with C, Rounds 3 and 4 with B, Rounds 5 and 6 with MC.

With A, form a ring using the double-ring method (see above).

Round 1: Ch 4 (counts as first tr), work 15 more tr in ring; join with slip st in top of beginning ch; change to next color in join—16 tr.

Round 2: Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2), dc in same st as join (beginning V-st made), ch 1, sk next st, *(dc, ch 2, dc) in next st (V-st made), ch 1, sk next st; repeat from * around; join with slip st in 3rd ch of beginning ch—8 V-sts, and 8 ch-1 spaces. Fasten off.

Round 3: Join next color with sc in any ch-1 space, [ch 11, sc in next ch-1 space] 7 times, ch 11; join with slip st in first sc—8 ch-11 spaces.

Round 4: Ch 1, [(sc, 5 dc, ch 2, 5 dc, sc) in next ch-11 space] 8 times; join with slip st in first sc—16 sc, 80 dc, and 8 ch-2 spaces. Fasten off.

Round 5: Join MC with sc in any ch-2 space, [ch 5, sk next 5 dc, tr in space between next 2 sc, ch 5, sc in next ch-2 space] 7 times, ch 5, skip next 5 dc, tr in space between next 2 sc, ch 5; join with slip st in first sc—16 ch-5 spaces. Do not fasten off.
