FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Circular wrap measures approx. 63"/160cm diameter
GAUGE One Large Motif = 8"/20.5 cm diameter (after blocking) Gauge is not critical for this project.
STITCHES USED Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), double treble crochet (dtr), half double crochet (hdc), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (slip st), treble crochet (tr)
SPECIAL TERMS 5-dc Cl: 5 double crochet cluster — Yarn over, insert hook in indicated stitch and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops (2 loops remain on hook), [yarn over, insert hook in same stitch and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops] 4 times (6 loops remain on hook); yarn over and draw through all 6 loops on hook. beg Cl: beginning cluster — Ch 3 (counts as dc), yarn over, insert hook in indicated stitch and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops (2 loops remain on hook), [yarn over, insert hook in same stitch and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops] 3 times (5 loops remain on hook); yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook.
NOTES 1. Large motifs are worked and joined as you go. After all nineteen large motifs have been made and joined, small motifs are worked into the holes between the large motifs. 2. The large motifs are joined in ch-7 spaces of Round 4. The assembly diagram shows the arrangement of the motifs, joining locations, and recommended order of assembly. 3. To change color in a join, insert hook in beginning ch or first st, yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook. Secure and fasten off old color.
FIRST LARGE MOTIF (no joining) With A, chain 8; join with slip st in first ch to form a ring. Round 1: Ch 5 (counts as dtr), work 23 more dtr in the ring; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—24 dtr. Round 2: Ch 8 (counts as dtr, ch 3), [dtr in next st, ch 3] 24 times; join with slip st in 5th ch of beginning ch—24 dtr, and 24 ch-3 sps. Round 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), beg cluster in same st as join, ch 5, *5-dc Cl in next dtr, ch 5; repeat from * around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—24 clusters, and 24 ch-5 sps. Round 4: (Slip st, ch 1, sc) in first ch-5 space, ch 7, *sc in next ch-5 space, ch 7; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sl st—24 ch-7 spaces, and 24 sc. Fasten off.
SECOND–NINETEENTH LARGE MOTIF (joined on side(s) to neighboring motifs) Notes: The wrap consists of 7 large motifs with A, and 6 motifs each with B and C (for a total of 19 motifs). Refer to the assembly diagram for color and placement of motifs, joining locations, and recommended order of assembly. Motifs are joined to neighboring motifs by three ch-7 spaces on the sides of each motif. One ch-7 space is left unjoined between neighboring motifs. Six motifs are joined in a ring around the first large motif, then twelve more motifs are joined in a ring around the inner ring. Work Rounds 1–3 of first large motif. Round 4: Work as for Round 4 of first large motif, joining neighboring ch-7 sps to adjacent motif(s) as follows: instead of working a ch-7, work ch 3, sl st in neighboring ch-7 space, ch 3. Fasten off.
SMALL MOTIF Note: The small motifs are used to fill the holes between the joined large motifs (formed by the single ch-7 spaces left unjoined between neighboring large motifs). Join D with slip st in any free interior ch-7 space, ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2), *dc in slip st that joins the next two motifs together, ch 2, dc in next free ch-7 space, ch 2; repeat from * once more, dc in slip st that joins the next two motifs together, ch 2; join with slip st in 3rd ch of beginning ch-5. Fasten off. Repeat this process in all holes between the large motifs.
FINISHING Edging Note: All four colors are used in the edging. Round 1: Join D with slip st in any ch-7 space along outer edge of wrap, ch 3, work 9 dc in same space, 10 dc n each ch-7 space around (in partial ch-spaces on either side of motif joins, work 5 dc in ch-space before join, skip join, and work 5 dc in ch-space following join); join with slip st in top of beginning ch; change to B in join. Fasten off D. Round 2: With B, ch 8 (counts as dc, ch 5 here and throughout), *skip next 5 dc, dc in space before next dc, ch 5; repeat from * around; join with slip st in 3rd ch of beginning ch. Round 3: With B, ch 3, work 4 dc in first ch-5 space, 5 dc in each ch-5 space around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch; change to C in join. Fasten off B. Rounds 4 and 5: With C, repeat Rounds 2 and 3; change to A in join. Fasten off C. Round 6: With A, ch 3, dc in space before next st, ch 3; work 7 dc around post of last dc made; working in sts of Round 5, sk next st, sc in next st, ch 3, *skip next 3 sts, (sc, ch 3, dc) in space before next st, ch 3; work 7 dc around post of last dc made; working in sts of Round 5, skip next st, sc in next st, ch 3; repeat from * around; join with sc in same st as join. Fasten off A. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends. |
