FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Bust and Length (diameter of circle): 31 1/2 (36, 42, 47 1/2)"/80 (91.5, 106.5, 120.5) cm

Notes: Diameter measurement also represents bust measurement (with some folded for collar) and length measurement. Length as worn will be shorter because part of circle is folded over to form collar and lapels. Jacket will lengthen about 2–4"/5–10cm when worn. Since Jacket can be worn open and stretches, the finished jacket will fit bust sizes: 30–34 (36–40, 42–46, 48–52)" comfortably.

GAUGE

In single crochet, using larger hook, 12 sts and 12 rows = 4"/10cm;

In linked double crochet, using larger hook, 12 sts and 7 rows = 4"/10cm;

In griddle stitch, using larger hook, 12 sts and 8 rows = 4"/10cm.

Note: Gauge is "as crocheted". Garment will stretch as work progresses and the piece is worn.

STITCHES USED

Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (sl st).

SPECIAL TERMS

ldc: Linked double crochet— Insert hook in horizontal loop at the middle front of the st just made, yarn over and draw up a loop, insert hook in next st of row, yarn over and draw up a loop, [yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook] 2 times.

beg-ldc: Beginning linked double crochet—Ch 2, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, yarn over and draw up a loop, insert hook in next st of row, yarn over and draw up a loop, [yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook] 2 times.

Fsc: Foundation single crochet (This technique creates a foundation chain and a row of single crochet stitches in one) –

Step 1:Place a slip knot on hook, ch 2, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook and draw up a loop; yarn over and draw through one loop on hook (the "chain"); yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (the "single crochet").

Step 2:The following stitch is worked under the forward 2 loops of the stem of the previous stitch (into the "chain"). Insert hook into the face of the "chain" and under the nub at the back of the "chain", draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through one loop on hook (the "chain"), yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (the "single crochet"). Repeat for the length of foundation.

To add Fsc within a round (for armholes): Ch 1, insert hook in the stem of the stitch just made (under 2 forward strands, just beneath the top loops), draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through one loop on hook (the "chain"), yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (the "single crochet"). Make remaining Fsc as above.

sc2tog: Single crochet 2 together—Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, (2 loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

NOTES

1. The body of jacket is worked in continuous rounds; do not join and do not turn at the end of rounds unless otherwise instructed.

2. The sleeves are worked directly into the armholes and worked from the top down to the wrist. The top of the sleeves (sleeve caps) are worked back and forth in short rows, and then the remainder of each sleeve is worked in continuous rounds.

3. The jacket can be worn open or closed with a pin at neck or under the bust.

4. To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over, yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Proceed with new color.

To keep track of the beginning of the continuous rounds, place a stitch marker at the end of the first round and move the marker up as each round is completed.
