Change to St st and work even until piece meas 19 ½ (21 ½, 20 ½, 21, 20 ¾, 20 ½)” from beg, end with a RS row. Next row: Purl, dec 8 sts evenly across row -- 78 (86, 94, 102, 110, 118) sts. Beg 2x2 rib; work 12 rows. Shape Armholes (RS) Change to St st. bind off 3 (3, 5, 5, 5, 5) sts beg next 2 rows -- 72 (80, 84, 92, 100, 108) sts. Yoke: Work Plait Cable for Back yoke for rem of piece. Work even until armhole measures 9 ½ (9 ½, 10 ½, 11, 11 ¼, 11 ½)", end with a WS row. Bind off 17 (21, 23, 26, 30, 33) sts beg next 2 rows. Place rem 38 (38, 38, 40, 40, 42) sts on holder for neck.
LEFT FRONT Cast on 42 (46, 50, 54, 58, 62) sts. (RS) Beg 2x2 rib; work until piece measures 2" from beg, end with a WS row. Change to St st and work even until piece meas 19 ½ (21 ½, 20 ½, 21, 20 ¾, 20 ½)” from beg, end with a RS row. Next row: Purl, dec 6 sts evenly across row -- 36 (40, 44, 48, 52, 56) sts Beg 2x2 rib; work 12 rows. Shape Armhole and Neck (RS) Change to St st and work left armhole as for Back. AT THE SAME TIME, work Plait cable for Front yoke and shape neck as follows: Dec 1 st at neck edge on next row, every 3 rows 9 (9, 9, 13, 5, 7) times, then every 4 rows 6 (6, 6, 3, 11, 10) times -- 17 (21, 23, 26, 30, 33) shoulder sts Work until armhole measures same as Back, then bind off.
RIGHT FRONT Work as for Left Front, rev all shaping.
SLEEVES Cast on 78 (78, 86, 86, 94, 94) sts. (RS) Beg 2x2 rib; work 12 rows. Start 2x2 rib and 2-st cable rib; work 2 rows. Inc 1 st each side of next row, and then every 4 (3, 3, 3, 3, 3) rows 10 (13, 12, 13, 12, 13) times - 100 (106, 112, 114, 120, 122) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 9 (9, 9, 10, 10, 10)" from beg, end with a WS row.. Bind off loosely.
PATCH POCKETS (make 2) Cast on 38 sts. (RS) Beg 2x2 rib; work 12 rows. Change to 2x2 rib and 2-st cable rib and work until pocket measures approx 7" from beg, end with pattern Row 4. Bind off all sts.
LEFT FRONT BUTTON BAND Note: Bands are worked in two pieces and seamed in center back. With RS facing, pick up and k174 (186, 186, 190, 190, 194) sts from bottom of hem of left front to center of back of neck. Beg 2x2 rib; work 12 rows. Bind off all sts.
RIGHT FRONT BUTTONHOLE BAND Work as for Left Band working three 2-st buttonholes on Row 6, with one centered at 2x2 rib on yoke and then 2 more spaced below, 3 ½” apart.
FINISHING Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeves in place, easing as necessary. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew Left and Right Front bands at center Back. Try on jacket and sew on pockets at desired placement, approx 3 1/2” from front edge. Sew on buttons. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends. Block and steam lightly.
