STITCHES USED Stockinette stitch (St st): Knit on RS, purl on WS. Corn-Seed Stitch (multiple of 8 sts + edge sts) Row 1 (RS): K3, * p1, k7; repeat from * across to last 1 (7, 1) st(s) end p1, k0 (6, 0). Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl. Rows 3, 5, 9 and 11: Knit. Row 7: * K7, p1; repeat from * across to last 4 (2, 6) sts, knit to end. Row: 9 and 11: Knit. Row 12: Purl. Repeat Rows 1 – 12 for pattern.
BACK Using larger needles and A, cast on 120 (132, 140) sts. Cut A; join MC. Lower Ruffle (RS) Using larger needles and MC, begin St st; work even for 8 (8, 10) rows. Change to smaller needles. Decrease Row: (RS) K2tog across—60 (66, 70) sts remain. Purl 1 row. Establish Pattern (RS) Using smaller needles and MC, begin Corn-Seed st; work even until piece measures 11 (12, 13)" from beginning, end with a WS row. Bind off all sts loosely.
LEFT FRONT Using larger needles and A, cast on 60 (66, 70) sts. Cut A; join MC. Ruffle (RS) Using larger needles and MC, begin St st; work even for 8 (8, 10) rows. Change to smaller needles. Decrease Row: (RS) K2tog across—30 (33, 35) sts remain. Purl 1 row. Establish Pattern (RS) Using smaller needles and MC, begin Corn-Seed st as follows:. Row 1 (RS): K3, * p1, k7; repeat from * across to last 3 (6, 0) sts, end p1 (1, 0), k2 (5, 0). Rows 2 – 6: Work even in St st as for Back. Row 7: * K7, p1; repeat from * across to last 6 (1, 3) sts, knit to end. Rows 8 – 12: Work even in St st. Repeat Rows 1 - 12 until piece measures 9 (9 1/2, 10)" from beginning, end with a RS row. Shape Neck (WS) At neck edge, bind off 5 (5, 6) sts, work to end. Work 1 row even. (WS) At neck edge, dec 1 st every other row 4 (5, 5) times— 21 (23, 24) sts remain for shoulder. Work even until piece measures same as Back to shoulder. Bind off all sts loosely.
RIGHT FRONT Work as for left Front, reversing shaping by working neck shaping at beginning of RS rows.
SLEEVES Using larger needles and A, cast on 48 sts. Cut A; join MC. Ruffle (RS) Using larger needles and MC, begin St st; work even for 8 (8, 10) rows. Change to smaller needles. Decrease Row: (RS) K2tog across—24 sts remain. Purl 1 row, inc 4 sts evenly across—28 sts. Establish Pattern (RS) Using smaller needles and MC, begin Corn-Seed st; work even for 4 rows. Shape Sleeve (RS) Beginning this row, inc 1 st each side every 4 rows 6 (8, 10) times— 40 (44, 48) sts. Work even until piece measures 7 (8 1/2, 10)" from the beginning, end with a WS row. Bind off all sts.
FINISHING Block pieces to measurements, if necessary. Sew shoulder seams. Set in sleeves; sew sleeve and side seams. Neckband With RS facing, using smaller needles and A, pick up and knit 44 (48, 52) sts around neck edge. Bind off all sts knitwise. Button Band With RS facing, using smaller needles and A, beginning at neck edge, pick up and knit 48 (52, 56) sts along left Front edge. Work as for Neck band. Buttonhole Band Place markers for 7 (7, 8) Buttonholes along right Front edge, first 1/2" from top of ruffle, last 1/2" from beginning of neck shaping, remaining 5 (5, 6) evenly spaced between. With RS facing, using smaller needles and A, beginning at lower edge, pick up and knit to first buttonhole marker; yo, skip next st for buttonhole; repeat for remaining buttonholes, work to end. Bind off all sts knitwise, working yo as a st. Using yarn needle, weave in ends. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes.
