GAUGE
In double crochet, 14 sts and 7 rows = 4”/10 cm; Gauge is not critical for this project.

SPECIAL TERM
mod-sc (modified single crochet): Working into the side of the previous sc, insert hook under the two vertical bars at the side of the sc, yo and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook.

NOTES
Work Foundation Row loosely.
Shawl is worked in rounds, working on both sides of Foundation Row.
Join each round with a slip st in st indicated.

 

SHAWL
Foundation Row: Chain 2, sc in top loops of second ch from hook (counts as mod-sc), *ch 1, mod-sc in previous sc; repeat from * until 195 mod-sc have been made, ch 1—195 mod-sc.

Rnd 1: Working in front loops only along opposite side of Foundation Row, sc in first mod-sc, [ch 3, skip next 2 mod-sc, sc in next mod-sc] 64 times, ch 3, skip last 2 modsc, [sc, ch 3, sc] in beg-ch (first ch-1 of Foundation); continuing around and working in front loops only along opposite edge of Foundation Row, [ch 3, skip next 2 mod-sc, sc in next mod-sc] 65 times, ch 3; join in first sc—132 sc and 132 ch- 3 spaces.

Rnd 2: Slip st in first ch-3 space, ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2), dc in same ch-3 space, (dc, ch 2, dc) in each ch-3 space around (V-st made); join in third ch of beg-ch—132 V-sts.

Rnd 3: Slip st in first ch-2 space, ch 1, sc in same ch-2 space, *7 dc in next ch-2 space, sc in next ch-2 space; repeat from * to last ch-2 space, 7 dc in last ch-2 space; join in first sc—66 7-dc groups and 66 sc.
