SPECIAL STITCH

skp (slip knit, pass slipped stitch over): Slip next st as if to purl, knit next st, lift slipped st over knit st and off needle—1 st decreased.

 

SPECIAL TECHNIQUE

3-Needle Bind-off: Hold 2 needles (of circular) in left hand; with spare needle, k2tog (1 from front needle, 1 from back needle), *k2tog, bind off 1 st in usual manner; repeat from * to end. 

 

PATTERN STITCH
Lace Pattern (multiple of 12 sts + 1)

Rows 1–4: Knit.

Row 5 (RS): K1, *[k2tog] twice, [yo, k1] 3 times, yo, [skp] twice, k1; repeat from * to end of row.

Row 6: Purl.

Rows 7–12: Repeat last 2 rows 3 more times.
Repeat Rows 1–12 for Lace pattern.

 

NOTES
1. Cardi is made from 5 pieces; back, 2 fronts, and 2 sleeves. All pieces are worked beginning at lower edge.

2. Hood is worked, after shoulders are seamed, beginning across neck edge.

3. Entire cardi is worked with 2 strands of yarn held together throughout.

4. Use of stitch markers to separate pattern stitch repeats is optional.

 

BACK
With 2 strands of yarn held together, CO 61 (73, 85, 97, 109) sts.

Begin Lace Pattern

Rows 1–4: Knit.

Row 5 (RS): K1, *[k2tog] twice, [yo, k1] 3 times, yo, [skp] twice, k1, place marker (pm); repeat from * to end of row—5 (6, 7, 8, 9) pattern repeats. Notes: Markers separate pattern stitch repeats. On RS rows, ensure that you always have 13 sts before the first marker, and 12 sts between markers. Do not place marker following final pattern repeat. Slip markers as you come to them.

Row 6: Purl.

Rows 7–12: Repeat last 2 rows 3 more times.
Repeat last 12 rows (Lace Pattern) 5 more times for a total of 72 rows.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 of pattern.

Shape Sleeve

Work in Lace pattern as established, increase 1 st each edge every 5th (5th, 4th, 4th, 4th) row 18 (18, 20, 20, 22) times—73 (73, 77, 77, 81) sts, end with a WS row.

Work even in Lace pattern as established until sleeve measures 18 (18, 18 1/2, 18 1/2, 19)"/45.5 (45.5, 47, 47, 48.5)cm from beginning.
BO.

 

FINISHING
Block all pieces lightly. Working from WS, seam shoulders using 3-needle bind-off, leave back neck sts on holder.

Hood

With RS facing, beginning at right front neck edge, pick up and knit sts evenly spaced across right front neck edge, knit the back neck sts from holder, pick up and knit sts evenly spaced across left front neck edge.
Work even in Garter st (k every row) until hood measures 12 1/2 (12 1/2, 13, 13, 13 1/2)"/32 (32, 33, 33, 34.5)cm, end with a WS row. Fold hood in half, bringing RS together. Working from WS, seam top of hood using 3-needle bind-off.

Set in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
