STITCHES USED Chain (ch), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (sl st)
NOTES 1. To change color in join of a round, work last stitch of round. Insert hook in first stitch of round, yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook. Fasten off old color. Proceed with new color. 2. Weave in ends as work progresses.
JACKET Notes: 1. Skirting (lower portion) of jacket is made from 24 (24, 27, 27) motifs. 2. After motifs are completed, they are sewn into 8 (8, 9, 9) strips of 3 motifs each. 3. One long edge of each strip is trimmed. The trim is wider at the lower end of the strip, causing the jacket skirting to flare slightly. After the trim is complete, the strips are sewn together to complete the skirting. 4. The bodice is worked from the top of the skirting up.
SKIRTING Motif (make 24 (24, 27, 27)) With larger hook and A, ch 4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring. Round 1 (RS): Ch 1, work 16 hdc in ring; join with sl st in first hdc and change to B—16 hdc. Fasten off A. Round 2: With B, ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in same hdc as join, *sc in next 3 hdc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next hdc; repeat from * 2 more times, sc in last 3 hdc; join with sl st in first sc and change to C—20 sc and 4 ch-2 sps. Fasten off B. Round 3: With C, ch 1, sc in same sc as join, *3 sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next 5 sc; repeat from * 2 more times, 3 sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next 4 sc; join with sl st in first sc—32 sc. Fasten off. With yarn needle and C, whipstitch motifs into 8 (8, 9, 9) strips of 3 motifs each. Trim Strips Note: Work trim across only one long edge of each strip. With WS of one strip facing and larger hook, join C with sl st in corner of strip to work across one long edge. Row 1 (WS): Ch 1, work 25 sc evenly spaced across long edge, turn—25 sc. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first 11 sc, [ch 1, sk next sc, dc in next sc] 7 times, turn. Place a marker at the beginning of this row for top of strip. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each dc, ch-1 sp, and sc across. SLEEVES (make 2) Notes: 1. Each cuff is made from 4 motifs. 2. After motifs are completed, they are sewn into a strip. 3. Each sleeve is worked from the top of a cuff up. Make 4 motifs as for skirting. Arrange the motifs into a strip and, with C, whipstitch the motifs together. Do not trim the strip. Row 1 (RS): With RS facing and larger hook, join C with sl st in corner of strip to work across long edge, ch 1, work 34 (34, 34, 36) sc across long edge to opposite corner, turn—34 (34, 34, 36) sc. Rows 2–6 (6, 4, 6): Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. Row 7 (7, 5, 7): Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn—36 (36, 36, 38) sc. FINISHING Block pieces lightly, to schematic measurements, if desired. With C, sew shoulder seams. Set in sleeves. Sew sleeve seams. Edging With RS facing and smaller hook, join A with sl st in back lower edge of jacket. Round 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc evenly spaced across lower edge, up front edge, around neck edge, down other front edge, and across remaining lower edge, working 2 sc in each corner; join with sl st in first sc. Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working in corners as follows, and joining with sl st in first sc at the end of the round: 1. Work 2 sc in each lower front corner. 2. At beginning of right neck edge work (sc, ch 7, sc) (for loop). 3. At beginning of left neck edge work, ch 40, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in remaining 38 ch, sc in corner, ch 40, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in remaining 38 ch (for ties). Using yarn needle, weave in all ends. |
