Technique used: Crochet and Knit



 

 

MATERIALS

Naturally Caron.com SPA
75% Microdenier Acrylic/25% Rayon from bamboo; 3oz/85g, 251yds/230m):
#0004 Green Sheen: 3 skeins

 

One size US F-5 (3.75mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge.

 

One pair size U.S. 6 (4mm), or size to obtain gauge.

144 coordinating color glass seed beads—size 6/0 (optional)
Coordinating sewing thread (optional)
Yarn needle

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Scarf measures approximately 11 1/2"/29cm wide x 58"/147.5cm long

GAUGE
In knitting stitch pattern, 23 sts and 28 rows = 4"/10cm;
One motif measures 3 1/2"/9cm across.

STITCHES USED
Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (sl st)

SPECIAL STITCH
picot: Ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook.

NOTES
1. Scarf is made in five sections, two short knit pieces, two 3-motif crochet sections, and one long knit piece.
2. The sections of the scarf are arranged, as follows: short knit piece, 3-motif crochet section, long knit piece, 3-motif crochet section, short knit piece.

SCARF
SHORT KNIT PIECE (make 2)
With knitting needles, cast on 63 sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, *p1, k1; repeat from * across.
Row 2: Purl.
Repeat last 2 rows until piece measures 5"/12.5cm from beginning; end with a Row 2.
Bind off.

LONG KNIT PIECE (make 1)
Work same as short knit piece until piece measures 40"/101.5cm from beginning; end with a Row 2.
Bind off.

CROCHET MOTIF (make 6)
With crochet hook, ch 6; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), work 23 dc in ring; join with sl st in top of beginning ch—24 dc.
Round 2: Ch 1, (sc, ch 7, sc) in same ch as join, [sc in next 5 dc, (sc, ch 7, sc) in next dc] 3 times, sc in next 5 dc; join with sl st in first sc—36 sc and 4 ch-7 sps.
Round 3: (Sl st, ch 3, 6 dc, picot, 7 dc) in first ch-7 sp, [sk next 3 sc, (sc, ch 7, sc) in next sc, sk next 3 sc, (7 dc, picot, 7 dc) in next ch-7 sp] 3 times, sk next 3 sc, (sc, ch 7 sc) in next sc, sk next 3 sc; join with sl st in top of beginning ch—4 petals.
Round 4: Sl st in next 6 dc, (sl st, ch 1, sc, ch 3, sc) in ch-3 sp of next picot, [ch 7, sc in next ch-7 sp, ch 7, (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch-3 sp of next picot] 3 times, ch 7, sc in next ch-7 sp, ch 7; join with sl st in first sc—8 ch-7 sps. Fasten off.

FINISHING
With yarn needle and yarn, sew crochet motifs into 2 strips of 3 motifs each. Arrange pieces in the following order, as shown in photograph: short knit piece, 3-motif crochet strip, long knit piece, 3-motif crochet strip, short knit piece. Sew pieces together.
Trim
Round 1: With RS facing and crochet hook, join yarn with sl st in any corner of scarf, ch 1, sc evenly spaced around, working 3 sc in each corner; join with sl st in first sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc corner; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
Beadwork (optional)
Arrange 6 beads evenly spaced around one petal of crochet motif, using photograph as a guide or arranging beads as desired. With sewing needle and thread, sew beads in place. Repeat on each petal of each motif.
Block lightly, if desired.
