One U.S. size 6 (4mm), 24”/61cm or 29"/73.5 cm circular needle or size to obtain gauge

KNITTED MEASUREMENTS

Approximately 19”/48.5cm deep x 48”/122cm wide

 

GAUGE

On Stockinette st, 23 sts and 30 rows = 4”/10 cm.

 

NOTES

Due to the elasticity of the pattern stitch, gauge is measured over Stockinette stitch.

Due to the difficulty in measuring the shawl while on the needles, size is determined by the number of stitches.

Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. However be sure to work back and forth on circular needle and do not join.

 

SHAWL

CO 7 sts.

Row 1: Knit.

Row 2 (RS): K3, yo, k1, yo, k3—9 sts.

Row 3 and all odd numbered rows (WS): K3, purl to last 3 sts, k3.

Row 4: K3, yo, k3, yo, k3—11 sts.

Row 6: K3, yo, k1, yo, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, yo, k1, yo, k3—13 sts.

Row 8: K3, yo, k2, yo, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, yo, k2, yo, k3—15 sts.

Row 10: K3, yo, k3, yo, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, yo, k3, yo, k3—17 sts.

Row 12: K3, yo, k4, yo, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, yo, k4, yo, k3—19 sts.

Row 14: K3, yo, k1, *yo, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, yo, k1; rep from * to last 3 sts, yo, k3—21 sts.

Row 16: K3, yo, k2, *yo, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, yo, k1; rep from * to last 4 sts, k1, yo, k3—23 sts.

Row 18: K3, yo, k3, *yo, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, yo, k1; rep from * to last 5 sts, k2, yo, k3—25 sts.

Rep Rows 14-21 for patt until there are 179 sts on needle, ending with Row 21.

Knit next row loosely and BO all sts.

Block shawl to measurements. Weave in ends.
