NOTES

1. Wrap is made from 33 identical motifs.

2. Motifs are worked and joined into 3 rows of 11 motifs each.

3. The motifs are joined to neighboring motifs while working the Outer Square. Each motif is joined to previous motifs with a One-Sided or Two-Sided Join, depending on placement of the motif.

4. Refer to assembly diagram for arrangement of motifs and recommended order for joining motifs.

5. Before working Outer Square of Motifs 2–33, determine placement of motif and then work Outer Square with One-Sided Join or Outer Square with Two-Sided Join, whichever is appropriate.

MOTIF 1

Note: The first motif is not joined to any previous motifs.

Inner Circle

With B, ch 6; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1 (RS): Work beg-Cl in ring, ch 3, [Cl in ring, ch 3] 7 times; join with sl st in top of first cluster—8 clusters and 8 ch-3 sp. Fasten off.

Outer Square

Note: The Outer Square is worked back and forth in rows and joined to the Inner Circle at the end of each RS row by working stitches into the ch-3 spaces of the Inner Circle.

With A, ch 10.

Row 1 (RS): Dc in 6th ch from hook, dc in next ch, ch 1, sk next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch, ch 1, with RS of Inner Circle facing, dc in any ch-3 sp of Inner Circle, turn—2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ch-1 sp, and 1 dc joining Outer Square to Inner Circle.

Row 2: Ch 1, dc in first sc of Outer Square, dc in next hdc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, dc in last 2 dc, turn—4 dc, and 1 ch-1 sp.

Row 3: Ch 5, 2 dc in first dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, hdc in next dc, sc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next Cl of Inner Circle, turn—3 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ch-1 sp, and 1 dc joining Outer Square to Inner Circle.

Row 4: Ch 1, dc in first sc of Outer Square, dc in next hdc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in last dc, turn—6 dc and 1 ch-1 sp.

Row 5: Ch 7, dc in first 4 dc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, hdc in next dc, sc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next ch-3 sp of Inner Circle, turn—4 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ch-1 sp, and 1 dc joining Outer Square to Inner Circle.

Row 6: Ch 1, dc in first sc of Outer Square, dc in next hdc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, dc in next 2 dc, dc2tog over last 2 sts, turn—5 dc and 1 ch-1 sp.

Row 7: Ch 5, dc2tog over first 2 sts, dc in next st, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, hdc in next dc, sc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next cluster of Inner Circle, turn—2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ch-1 sp, and 1 dc joining Outer Square to Inner Circle.

Row 8: Repeat Row 2.

Row 9: Ch 5, dc in first 2 dc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, hdc in next dc, sc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next ch-3 sp of Inner Circle, turn—2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ch-1 sp, and 1 dc joining Outer Square to Inner Circle.

Rows 10–25: Repeat Rows 2–9 twice.

Rows 26–32: Repeat Rows 2–8.

Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Whip stitch free loops of beginning ch at base of sts of Row 1 to top of sts of Row 32. Note: There should be 12 ch-5 sp and 4 ch-7 sps around the outer edge of the Outer Square. The ch-7 sps form the corners of the Outer Square.

MOTIFS 2–33 (make and join 32 more)

Note: Work and join motifs, arranged as shown in assembly diagram.

Work Inner Circle same as Motif 1.

Determine placement of motif and work either Outer Square with One-Sided Join (if motif has only one neighbor), or Outer Square with Two-Sided Join (if motif has two neighbors). Pin the current motif to the neighboring motif with WS together so motifs do not twist during joining.

Outer Square with One-Sided Join

Rows 1–19: Work same as Rows 1–19 of Outer Square of Motif 1.

Notes: The current motif is now worked as before, joining the Outer Square to the Inner Circle, AND also joined to a neighboring motif. The current motif is joined to the neighboring motif at the end of each WS row, and joined to the Inner Circle at the end of each RS row. Before beginning, identify the 3 ch-5 sps along the side of the neighboring motif, and the 2 ch-7 corner sps, to which the current motif needs to be joined.

Row 20: Ch 1, dc in first sc of Outer Square, dc in next hdc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in last dc, ch 3, with WS of motifs together, sc in 4th ch of corresponding ch-7 sp (corner) of neighboring motif, turn—6 dc, 1 ch-1 sp, and 1 sc worked in corner of neighboring motif.

Row 21: Ch 3, dc in first 4 dc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, hdc in next dc, sc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next ch-3 sp of Inner Circle, turn—4 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ch-1 sp, and 1 dc joining Outer Square to Inner Circle.

Row 22: Ch 1, dc in first sc of Outer Square, dc in next hdc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, dc in next 2 dc, dc2tog over last 2 sts, ch 2, sc in next ch-5 sp of neighboring motif, turn—5 dc, 1 ch-1 sp, and 1 sc worked in neighboring motif.

Row 23: Ch 2,dc2tog over first 2 sts, dc in next st, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, hdc in next dc, sc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next cluster of Inner Circle, turn—2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ch-1 sp, and 1 dc joining Outer Square to Inner Circle.

Row 24: Ch 1, dc in first sc of Outer Square, dc in next hdc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, dc in last 2 dc, ch 2, sc in next ch-5 sp of neighboring motif, turn—4 dc,1 ch-1 sp, and 1 sc worked in neighboring motif.

Row 25: Ch 2, dc in first 2 dc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, hdc in next dc, sc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next ch-3 sp of Inner Circle, turn—2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ch-1 sp, and 1 dc joining Outer Square to Inner Circle.

Row 26: Repeat Row 24.

Row 27: Ch 2, 2 dc in first dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, hdc in next dc, sc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next Cl of Inner Circle, turn—3 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ch-1 sp, and 1 dc joining Outer Square to Inner Circle.

Rows 28 and 29: Repeat Rows 20 and 21.

Rows 30–32: Work same as Rows 6-8 of Motif 1.

Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Whip stitch free loops of beginning ch at base of sts of Row 1 to top of sts of Row 32.

Outer Square with Two-Sided Join

Rows 1–11: Work same as Rows 1–11 on Motif 1.

Rows 12–20: Work same as Rows 20–28 of Outer Square with One-Sided Join, joining to first neighboring motif.

Rows 21–29: Repeat Rows 21–29 of Outer Square with One-Sided Join, joining to 2nd neighboring motif.

Rows 30–32: Work same as Rows 6-8 on Motif 1.

Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Whip stitch free loops of beginning ch at base of sts of Row 1 to top of sts of Row 32.

FINISHING

Edging

With RS facing, join B with sc in any corner ch-7 sp, ([sc, ch 3] 3 times, 2 sc) in same corner ch-7 sp; work in ends of rows of Outer Squares around entire outer edge of Wrap, as follows;

1. Work (2 sc, ch 3, sc) in each ch-5 sp and each joined ch-7 sp.

2. Work (2 sc, ch 3, [sc, ch 3] twice, 2 sc) in each corner ch-7 sp.

3. Work 2 sc around post of dc at end of all other rows.

4. At end of round; join with sl st in first sc.

Fasten off.

Using yarn needle, weave in all ends. Block to measurements, if desired.
