MATERIALS

Naturally Caron.com Country
(75% Microdenier Acrylic/25% Merino Wool; 3oz/85g, 185yds/170m):
#0018 Spice House: 6 (7, 8, 9) skeins

One pair size U.S. 9 (5.5mm) needles or size to obtain gauge

One each size U.S. 9 (5.5mm) and size U.S. 8 (5mm) circular needles, 20"/51cm long

4 split ring markers
10 stitch markers
Yarn needle

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

GAUGE
In St st using larger needles, 16 sts and 22 rows = 4"/10cm
In Farrow rib using larger needles, 20 sts and 22 rows = 4"/10cm
In Farrow rib using smaller needles, 22 sts and 24 rows=4"/10cm

 

STITCHES USED
Stockinette stitch (St st):
Knit on RS, purl on WS.

Farrow Rib (multiple of 3 + 1):
Row 1 (RS): *K2, p1; rep from * across, ending with k1.
Row 2: P1, *k2, p1; rep from * across.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 for Farrow rib.

NOTES
The Farrow rib used on the cowl is worked in the round instead of back and forth.

 

BACK
With larger straight needles, CO 85 (91, 97, 103, 109) sts. Starting with Row 2 work Farrow rib for 2 ¼”, ending with Row 2 and inc 1 st on last row—86 (92, 98, 104, 110) sts.
Work in St st until piece measures 11 (11, 12, 13, 13)" from CO edge. Place a ring marker at each end for armholes.

Armholes
Continue in St st until piece measures 21 ½ (21 ½, 23, 24, 24)” from CO edge.
Last row: BO 30 (32, 34, 36, 38) sts for first shoulder, B0 next 26 (28, 30, 32, 34) sts for neck, BO rem 30 (32, 34, 36, 38) sts for second shoulder.

 

FRONT
Work the same as Back until piece measures 18 ½ (18 ½, 20, 21, 21)” from CO edge, ending on WS.

Shape Neck
Next row (RS):
Work 35 (37, 39, 41, 43) sts, attach another ball of yarn and BO center 16 (18, 20, 22, 24) sts, work to end of row. Working both sides at same time dec 1 st at each neck edge every other row 5 times—30 (32, 34, 36, 38) sts rem for each shoulder. Work even until piece measures same as Back from CO edge, ending on WS. BO rem sts on each shoulder.

 

SLEEVES
With larger straight needles, CO 82 (82, 88, 88, 88) sts. Starting with Row 2 work Farrow Rib for 2 ¼”, ending on WS. Work in St st until piece measures 18 (18, 18, 19, 19)” from CO edge. BO.

 

COWL
Sew shoulder seams. With smaller circular needle, PU and k14 (15, 16, 17, 18) st along left front neck edge, 16 (18, 20, 22, 24) sts from front neck, 14 (15, 16, 17, 18) sts along right front neck edge and 26 (28, 30, 32, 34) sts along back neck edge—70 (76, 82, 88, 94) sts.
Join and work around in Farrow rib as follows:
Rnd 1: *K2, p1; rep around, ending with p1.
Rnd 2: K1, *p2, k1; rep from * around.
Work even in Farrow rib patt for 1”. Change to larger circular needle. *Continue around in Farrow rib, inc 5 sts evenly spaced on rnd, placing a marker before and after inc st. Continue in Farrow rib working incs at markers every 5 rows 11 times more (working inc sts as next st would be in Farrow rib patt, however after marker, work your next rib patt as it would be before you worked incs between markers). When you have inc’d to 3 sts between markers, remove markers and work incs into patt.*
Rep from * to * until all incs have been made and there are 140 (146, 152, 158, 164) sts. Work even until cowl measures 12”. BO loosely in rib patt.

 

FINISHING
Block pieces. Sew sleeves between markers. Sew sleeve and side seams.
Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
